Tenisha Yancey is an incumbent running for re-election for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 1st District. Prior to being elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, Yancey was a project manager for the Wayne County Land Bank as a government relations executive and worked in the Wayne County Executive’s Office as an outreach program coordinator. Later she worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office.
Yancey’s voting record and sponsored bills indicate to us that she is grounded in civil rights, protecting the environment from dangerous chemicals like PFAS, advocating for vulnerable populations like our children and elderly, and defending workers’ rights.
Yancey is endorsed by five of our partner organizations including the Michigan Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Between the Lines.
Yancey is running against Latricia Ann Lanier. While we didn't see endorsements for Lanier from organizations that concern us, they also don't have the support of any of our partner organizations and therefore we cannot recommend them.
Yancey is the most progressive choice in this race.

Joe Biden
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has a long career in public service, most notably serving as Vice President alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016.
Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch are our recommendations for the Michigan Supreme Court. Both candidates will protect our civil rights while ensuring justice for all.
The Michigan Supreme Court race appears on the non-partisan section of the ballot, but McCormack and Welch were nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party. Be sure to turn your ballot over and do not leave this important race blank.
