Helena Scott is running for the first time for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 7th District. Before running for office, Scott served as a Community Liaison for Representative LaTanya Garrett, who is currently serving her last term as the Representative from the 7th District. Scott has a steady history of fighting for the people of Michigan, including organizing for the One Fair Wage & Earned Paid Sick Time campaigns, and currently serves on the Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC) Protect and Defend Steering Committee, advocating for fair wages for restaurant workers.
Scott currently serves as the first Vice Chair of the MDP Black Caucus and Vice Chair for the 14th Congressional Democratic Party and is President of the Westside Slate. Scott is also a member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women, and is involved with the NAACP PAC.
Scott’s platform includes improving and investing in public education, making college more affordable, prioritizing public safety by improving infrastructure, increasing funding for water testing, and ensuring that anyone is able to find a good job with a liveable wage.
Scott is endorsed by four of our partner organizations including the Michigan Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Michigan AFL-CIO, and Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
Scott is running against Ronald Cole. While we didn't see endorsements for Cole from organizations that concern us, they also don't have the support of any of our partner organizations and therefore we cannot recommend them.
Scott is the most progressive choice in this race.

Joe Biden
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has a long career in public service, most notably serving as Vice President alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016.
Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch are our recommendations for the Michigan Supreme Court. Both candidates will protect our civil rights while ensuring justice for all.
The Michigan Supreme Court race appears on the non-partisan section of the ballot, but McCormack and Welch were nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party. Be sure to turn your ballot over and do not leave this important race blank.
