Elect Louis Peralta to put Peralta Community College District on the right track for progress.
Louis Quindlen’s community engagement and policy positions demonstrate that he will be a progressive champion for the Peralta Community College District community and will work effectively in the best interest of this diverse district.
Progressive endorsements: Quindlen has the endorsement of some progressive groups, including Alameda Labor Council, Planned Parenthood Advocate Mar Monte, and East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club. He has also received the endorsement of State Senator Nancy Skinner, former Alameda County Superintendent of Schools Sheila Jordan, and Alameda County Treasurer Hank Levy.
Electoral history: Quindlen has not run for public office before.
Top issues: Strategic planning, budget reform, student success and equity, enrollment growth, and expanding adult education and student access.
Governance and community leadership experience: Quindlen is an educator and a workforce advocate, which he does to support community and industry collaborations that produce meaningful improvements to the region’s employment landscape. Forty years ago, he established an industrial training program for skilled workers who were between positions. This work led to a 17-year career as an instructor in Machine Technology at Laney College that has included advocacy around apprenticeships, job training, and workforce development in high-skill and high-wage industries.
Quindlen has been critical of recent failures in strategic planning and budget allocation at Peralta Community College District, and his campaign focuses heavily on realigning the district’s budget to center student success and equity. His approach would seek to address a 30% reduction in student enrollments since 2015 and post-pandemic skilled-labor demands by instituting the state’s updated Student Centered Funding Formula, reinstating courses that were cut from the schedule, and reallocating district funds from the district office to the colleges.
