No Recommendation
Larry Stanley, who registered his party as "The Alliance," is running to be a term-limited representative who "puts state before Party and solutions before ideology." Stanley's platform includes advocating for a $500 universal basic income, a public health care option, term limits, and ranked-choice voting. He would also want to shepherd in comprehensive criminal justice reform, including ending private prisons and better police training.
Stanley is challenging incumbent and former Kennewick City Council member Matt Boehnke in the 8th Legislative District. Boehnke is a staunch conservative who focuses on reducing regulation for businesses, education, and energy. This session, Boehnke continued his streak of opposing progressive policies, including voting against statewide pollution limits, establishing uninterrupted breaks for health care workers, and expanding tenant protections.
Stanley's policies are definitely left of Boehnke's, but late information in the race, an evolving third party, and lack of local or statewide endorsements make a full recommendation complicated. Voters should choose Stanley or write in a candidate of their choice.
