Hardy's opponent, Republican Shelly Short, was appointed to represent District 7 in the state senate after Sen. Brian Dansel was chosen for a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Short is one of the most conservative members of the Legislature and is an obstacle to funding schools. Hardy would be a progressive change for District 7.
