City of Yakima

Avina Gutiérrez is the best candidate in this race. Elected in 2015, Avina Gutiérrez became one of the first Latinas to serve on the Yakima City Council, where she has supported funding youth mentorship programs for East Yakima. Gutiérrez been a fairly reliable progressive vote on the council but has run into challenges outside the council that forced her to step down from her position as mayor after seven months.

She is running against Jason White, Pablo Gonzalez, and Maud Scott. Gonzalez ran for the 15th District state House seat as a Democrat in 2012 and is now running for Yakima City Council on a platform of reducing crime and homelessness. We believe Gutiérrez has learned from her first two years on the council and is the best choice in this race.

The District 4 race is crowded with conservative candidates. The best candidate in this race is retired doctor Kay Funk. She has made a statement against racial profiling and federal interference on local immigration policing. Funk has stated that if elected, she would work on issues of homelessness, housing affordability, and would support putting the downtown plaza to a public vote.

She is running against veteran Chelsea Mack, Tony Sandoval, Tony Williams, "law and order" candidate Sandi Belzer, and anti-tax candidate Keith Effler. Funk is the best choice for Yakima City Council District 4.

Brad Hill is a Marine Corps veteran and the center director for Fort Simcoe Job Corps. He is a self-stated fiscal conservative with a progressive agenda. If elected, he will focus on helping disadvantaged youth, public safety, and creating a business-friendly environment.

He is running against Joe Mann, who has unofficially withdrawn, and Republican Micaela Razo. Hill is the best choice in this race.
