Nicole Macri has been an effective leader on affordable housing, homelessness, human services, and mental health for many years. She is running to expand affordable housing options, create a sustainable transportation system, fully fund our schools, close the gender pay gap, and ensure LGBTQ people are free from discrimination. Macri - an out lesbian - would be the first woman elected to the state House in the 43rd in more than 20 years.
Her opponent, Dan Shih, is also progressive and a leader in the LGBTQ community. He received a dual endorsement along with Macri from NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. However, Macri's experience and numerous endorsements from our Progressive Voters Guide partners make her the best choice in this race.Last updated: 2023-04-05Nicole Macri

Initiative 1433
No one who works hard and plays by the rules should still struggle to make ends meet. Yet too many working people, particularly women and people of color, work two or three jobs and still have trouble providing basic necessities like food and shelter for their families. Additionally, Washingtonians should be able to take care of themselves or a sick child without losing a paycheck. Initiative 1433 would give all workers the opportunity to earn paid sick and safe leave and raise the state minimum wage to $13.50 over four years.
