This election will be held on November 4, 2025. Incumbent Democratic Delegate Atoosa Reaser faces a challenge from Republican Junaid Khan in HD-27.

Virginia’s House District 27 lies entirely within Loudoun County in Northern Virginia, spanning rural and suburban communities along the county’s northern and western edges, including Purcellville, Round Hill, and Hamilton. In the 2024 election Democratic nominees carried federal and statewide contests by comfortable double-digit margins.

Delegate Atoosa Reaser has served in the House of Delegates since 2024. She previously served on the Loudoun County School Board and served as Deputy Town Attorney for Herndon, practiced as a litigator, worked as Associate General Counsel, and is a guardian ad litem advocating for children’s best interests. A first-generation immigrant whose family fled Iran during the revolution, Reaser earned a B.A. from James Madison University and a J.D. from George Mason University Law School. She has volunteered as a PTA leader, substitute teacher, and merit badge counselor for her son’s Scouts troop.

Delegate Reaser co-patroned HJ 1, to protect reproductive freedom. She co-patroned HJ 2, to automatically restore voting rights to people upon release from incarceration. She co-patroned HJ 9, to repeal the Commonwealth’s defunct same-sex marriage ban and guarantee marriage equality for LGBTQ+ Virginians.

Delegate Reaser champions clean-energy legislation by expanding EV charging infrastructure, deploying electric school buses, and incentivizing renewable development to mitigate climate impacts.

She authored safe gun storage legislation, co-patroned bans on ghost guns and assault weapons, and advocates for enhanced background checks and extreme risk protection orders to prevent gun violence.

She supports workforce development partnerships, paid family and medical leave, fair teacher compensation, and increased affordable housing to support sustainable community growth.

She prioritizes public education funding by expanding K-12 academic and arts programs, improving teacher pay, and investing in early childhood and preschool initiatives to strengthen learning outcomes

The Opposition

Junaid Khan’s campaign centers on giving parents, not teachers and experts, control over school curricula. He also supports pro-business tax cuts, Right-to-Work to prevent people from coming together in a union, and “Safe Streets” policies focused on law enforcement and drug crackdowns. He supports efforts to ban transgender students from sporting activities and accessing facilities that match their gender identity. Progressive voters may reject his culture-war education agenda, anti-labor economic stance, and punitive public safety approach as out of step with equity-driven climate, workers’ rights, and restorative justice goals.

Based on her strong community background and commitment to focusing on equity as a legislator, Incumbent Democratic Delegate Atoosa Reaser is the progressive candidate in this race.
