Judge Maria McLaughlin is the Democratic Nominee for the open seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Currently, McLaughlin is a judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. She is a native Philadelphian who formerly served as a judge on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. McLaughlin has been endorsed by labor organizations, community groups, progressive allies, and LGBTQ+ advocates.
McLaughlin spent almost 20 years working as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia and later as Chief of the Child Support Enforcement Unit. She was one of the youngest female chiefs ever appointed in Philadelphia. As a single mother, much of her life is dedicated to protecting the rights of children. Off of the bench, McLaughlin dedicated service hours to anti-violence initiatives, re-entry programs and youth organizations. During the pandemic, she assumed the role of liaison between the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Superior Court.
Her opponent, Kevin Brobson, has served as a judge on the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania since 2010. Brobson has demonstrated a lack of progressive values in his decisions around gun safety, public education and gerrymandering of congressional districts drawn by the state legislature.
Maria McLaughlin is the progressive choice for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
