Shadia Martini is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives for the 54th District. Martini immigrated to the United States in 1992 after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Aleppo. She received her Master's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1996 and now owns and operates several businesses in southeast Michigan. Martini is a human rights activist and volunteer who has been aiding Syrian refugees for over a decade.
Martini’s priorities include working to increase the competitiveness of Michigan’s economy, pass common sense gun violence prevention legislation, and updating Michigan’s roads and bridges. She believes abortion is a human right and that prescriptions and health care should be affordable. Martini will also fight for cleaner air and water and work to protect the right to vote.
Martini has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Clean Water Action, Equality Michigan Action Network, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan Association for Justice, Michigan Education Association, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan United Action, Sierra Club - Michigan, MI Poder, and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.
Martini is running against Republican incumbent Donni Steele who was endorsed by the DeVos-backed Michigan Freedom Network and anti-public education organization Great Lakes Education Project. Steele voted against common sense gun safety measures such as safe storage laws and is anti-reproductive freedom.
Shadia Martini is the most progressive choice in this race.
