Rep. Debbie Dingell is a Democratic candidate running for her fourth term in Michigan’s 6th Congressional District. Dingell has risen through the ranks to become co-chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. She also serves as co-chair of the House Medicare for All Caucus and 12 other caucuses.

Healthcare and education have been focal points for Dingell’s career. She previously served as an executive at General Motors and as president of its foundation. Carl Marlinga is an attorney with decades of legal experience who is running as the Democratic candidate to represent the 10th Congressional District. He served for nearly four decades as Macomb County Prosecutor, an assistant U.S. attorney, and a judge on the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.

Marlinga fully supports the Constitutional right to get an abortion and intends to codify Roe into federal law. He wants to support good-paying jobs here in the U.S. to strengthen the economy, while also working to protect our Great Lakes and rivers and ensure they are clean for generations to come.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib is running as the Democratic candidate for her third term in the 12th Congressional District. Tlaib is one of the first two Muslim women ever elected to Congress and was previously the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, where she served for six years.

Rep. Tlaib has spent her career and her term in Congress working for social, economic, environmental, and housing justice and standing up to wealthy special interests. Despite being new to Congress, she has already secured funding to prevent water shutoffs and keep vital services in operation during the COVID-19 crisis. She also opened four neighborhood service centers throughout her district.

Shri Thanedar is a current state representative running as the Democratic candidate to represent the 13th Congressional District.

Abraham Aiyash is an incumbent Democrat running for his second term to the Michigan House of Representatives. Joe Tate is an incumbent Democrat running for his third term to the Michigan House of Representatives. Before serving in the Michigan House, Joe Tate was an all-star football player and captain at Michigan State University, where he graduated with a degree in Public Policy and then played in the NFL. After two years in the NFL, he joined the Marines and served two deployments in Afghanistan. When he was honorably discharged, he came back to Michigan to earn two Master's degrees from the University of Michigan in Business Administration and Science in Environmental Policy and Planning.

Sam Baydoun is a Democrat running for his third term on the Wayne County Commission. He immigrated to the United States from Lebanon in 1978. Since then, he has developed a very successful real estate career. He is endorsed by the United Auto Workers.

Baydoun is running against Republican Ann F. Clark.

Given the limited information we have about both candidates, we are unable to determine whether either candidate could be considered progressive to any degree, but at this time we are recommending voters consider Baydoun over Clark based on the information we were able to find.

Raymond Basham is a Democrat running for his seventh term on the Wayne County Commission. He chairs the Committee on Audit for the County Commission. He has also served as a police officer, constable, Taylor City Council member, state representative, and state senator. An Air Force veteran, he also worked at Ford Motor Company for 28 years, where he was a proud member of the UAW.

Basham is running against Republican Ashleigh Bielecki-Gamalski.

Raymond Basham is the best choice in this race.

Joseph Palamara is a Democrat running for his 13th term on the Wayne County Commission. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Commission. He has also been a state representative, attorney, and guest lecturer over the years. He is endorsed by the UAW.

Palamara is running against Republican Craig Bielecki.

Due to the problematic nature of Palamara’s work as a lobbyist while holding public office, we cannot recommend him. There is no progressive choice in this race.
