Jim Haadsma is an incumbent Democrat running for his third term in the Michigan House of Representatives for the 44th District. Before becoming a representative, Haadsma served on the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners for four terms. Haadsma has been a licensed attorney for 36 years and serves on several boards and committees in Calhoun County including the Haven, Battle Creek Pride, local chapters of the NAACP and Salvation Army, and the Rotary Club of Battle Creek.
Haadsma’s priorities include creating jobs and economic equity—something he’s focused on in his 36 years as an attorney navigating unemployment and workers’ rights—and making sure that our public schools are adequately funded and teachers receive the competitive salaries they deserve. Haadsma also believes that everyone should have access to quality and affordable health care, our transportation infrastructure is directly correlated to a better economy, and that we must protect our waterways and fight PFAS contamination in our drinking water.
Haadsma is endorsed by seven of our partners: Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, American Federation of Teachers Michigan, Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, Clean Water Action, Michigan Education Association, and Equality Michigan.
Haadsma is running against Republican Dave Morgan. Morgan is endorsed by the anti-choice organization Right to Life Michigan and the DeVos-backed Michigan Freedom Network.
Jim Haadsma is the most progressive choice in this race.
