John Cherry is an incumbent running for his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 49th District. Before taking office, Cherry graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources and Environment and returned to the University of Michigan to get his Masters of Public Policy. He served on the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Office of Science and Policy, later working for the DNR. In 2015 he ran and won a seat for the Flint Charter Commission.
Cherry’s priorities include making the unemployment system accessible to use, protecting employees from wage theft, increasing the minimum wage, securing union rights, and protecting workers from discrimination. He is also dedicated to fighting for clean water,lead-safe communities, and strengthening natural resource protections for our wildlife.
Cherry is endorsed by seven of our partner organizations including Michigan Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Between the Lines.
Cherry is running against Bryan Lutz. We do not recommend voting for Lutz. While we didn't see endorsements for this candidate from organizations that concern us, they also don't have the support of any of our partner organizations and therefore we cannot recommend them.
Cherry is the most progressive choice in this race.

Joe Biden
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has a long career in public service, most notably serving as Vice President alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016.
Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch are our recommendations for the Michigan Supreme Court. Both candidates will protect our civil rights while ensuring justice for all.
The Michigan Supreme Court race appears on the non-partisan section of the ballot, but McCormack and Welch were nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party. Be sure to turn your ballot over and do not leave this important race blank.
