Madison Leighty is running for Northglenn City Council Ward 1. She has worked as Board Member on the Northglenn DISE Board, as a campaign manager, and as intern to the Northglenn Mayor. Leighty does not have a tremendously visible platform, however, ProgressNow Colorado recognizes her as the progressive choice over her opponent, Nicholas Walker.
In June of 2023, Walker walked out of the city council chambers when a scheduled discussion regarding the city’s Pride Proclamation was occurring. When questioned by the city and DISE board, Walker stated "I would like to say that I won't be bullied or intimidated, and whether it's from a virtue-signaling email from the city staff or a hateful and vulgar message I received from a sitting DISE board member," This dismissive and defensive response to diversity, inclusivity, and accountability does not inspire confidence in Walker’s ability to represent Northglenn. His fellow council members voted to censure Walker in condemnation of his behavior.
Due to her dedication to diversity, inclusion, and social equity, Madison Leighty is the progressive choice for Northglenn Ward 1.
