No Good Choices

There is no progressive choice in this race. Sen. Duey Stroebel is running unopposed for his third term in the State Senate. He has a long conservative record which includes favoring harsher criminal justice laws, right-to-work legislation, and repealing environmental protections. Most recently, despite thousands of Wisconsinites struggling to make ends meet in a gloabl health pandemic, Stroebel has spoken in favor of ending a moratorium on cutting off household utility service for people who are behind on their bills.

State Assembly

Depending on where you live, you may have one of the below State Assembly races on your ballot.

  • Nurse and Army veteran Melisa Arndt is running to unseat incumbent Republican Jon Plumer. Arndt is the Wisconsin chapter leader of Free Mom Hugs, an organization that affirms and supports LGBTQ+ children. She supports affordable healthcare, clean water, and nonpartisan redistricting. Jon Plumer's stated policy positions are ambiguous--indeed, when he first announced his run for the Assembly he forgot to mention that he was a Republican. Although Plumer fails to publicize it, he has served as a consistent conservative vote as a member of the Legisature. Arndt is the progressive choice.

No Good Choices

Speech language pathologist and Democratic candidate for the 52nd District, Julie Schroeder appears to be a promising candidate, but does not have any issue positions available online. Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt was among the Assembly Republicans who pressured school districts to reopen for in-person instruction with little regard for science and has been endorsed by WI Family Action PAC and Wisconsin Right to Life, a right wing group that wants to outlaw abortion. As such, there is no verifiably progressive candidate in the race.

No Good Choices

Assemblyman Timothy Ramthun is running unopposed. Ramthun is a rubber stamp for conservative leadership, as evidenced by a well reported occasion where he voted for an amendment and asked what was in it a month later, writing that the provision was "deeply disturbing." The provision made it much more difficult for essential workers to obtain worker's compensation if they contract coronavirus in the course of their jobs. Ramthun is fiscally conservative and is anti-choice. There is no progressive candidate in this race.
