VOTE YES

Vote YES to establish effective, local fire resources

Everyone deserves to feel safe knowing that quality help is just a call away. Proposed Shoreline Fire Department Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1 would help make the area safer by creating a new local fire authority to serve the emergency needs of the region.

A regional fire authority is an independent tax district created to fund fire and emergency medical services. Establishing a new regional fire authority allows for a more organized, resourced, and effective emergency response in a region. Local and county fire departments passed a joint resolution which is being put to Shoreline, Kenmore, and Lake Forest Park voters in the form of Proposition 1.

If approved by voters, Proposition 1 would establish both a new regional fire authority and its funding through two taxes. The first is a two-year tax of $.70 per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2025. The second is a six-year fire benefit charge based on assessments on both residential and business property improvements; this rate is restricted in amount by the state and may not exceed 60% of the operating budget. This funding would replace the current tax levies and fire benefit charges that the districts currently serving the area collect.

This measure is endorsed by a strong list of Democratic local leaders and represents the best option for community emergency resources. Vote Yes on Proposed Shoreline Fire Department Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1 to consolidate resources and efficiently provide emergency care in the area.
