Greninger is challenging incumbent Peter Kwon, who has been a council member since 2016. Between 2020 and 2022 Kwon was the deputy mayor of SeaTac. Professionally, he is a systems engineer and is the founder of the Neighborhood Locking Mailbox Program.
Kwon’s main priority during his tenure has been reducing SeaTac’s debt position while trying to not cut services. Recently, Kwon has also initiated talks with the Port of Seattle to acquire the 220-acre North SeaTac park. Unfortunately, Kwon has campaigned to make us fear our neighbors, spreading lies based on what we look like or where we come from while opposing affordable homes. He has been quoted as stating that SeaTac already has "enough" affordable housing, which disregards the pressing need for accessible and affordable housing options in our community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kwon voted to ban the effective strategy by King County to convert unused hotels into housing with on-site services within SeaTac. In a time when collective efforts were required to address the crisis, Kwon prioritized bureaucratic concerns over the health and safety of our community.
Also running is Marianne "Ginger" West, who is not mounting an active campaign as of early July, with no website and no funds raised.
