There are no good choices for Yakima County Commissioner in District 3. Voters should consider choosing the more mainstream conservative in Republican LaDon Linde over Republican Autumn Torres, who is further right.
Both candidates want to remove pandemic safety protocols like mask requirements at a time when local hospitals are still buckling under the influx of coronavirus patients. The Department of Health noted in August that cases have increased in Yakima County by 100-299%. Both candidates also want to see the eviction moratorium lifted, which service providers have warned will hurt struggling families and cause a spike in homelessness. However, Torres has been endorsed by a far-right group promoting conspiracy theories about the Jan. 6 insurrection, debating the results of the democratically-decided 2020 election, and more.
In a race with no progressive or even moderate options, vote for the more mainstream conservative Linde or write in a progressive candidate of your choice for Yakima County Commissioner in District 3.

Because of a Tim Eyman initiative, the Legislature is required to submit any bill it passes that closes tax loopholes or raises revenue to a nonbinding advisory vote. The Legislature had a historically productive 2021 session, resulting in several advisory votes appearing on the ballot. We hope the Legislature will change the law to remove these meaningless measures in the future.
