Judge Dan Johnson is running for election to the Lincoln County Superior Court. Johnson currently serves as a judge on the county's district court after being appointed by the Commissioners of Lincoln County and retained twice by voters. He is also on the Board of the Judicial Administration for the State of Washington after being elected by peers from the District and Municipal Court Judge's Association.
Johnson has extensive judicial experience including nearly five years on the district court and 39 years as a trial attorney before that. In 2013, he argued and won a case in front of the Supreme Court, which allowed greater judicial discretion with some strict sentencing guidelines with regards to avoiding over sentencing. Johnson currently works as a pro tem judge for the superior court.
Also in this race is Jeff Barkdull, a Special Deputy Prosecutor for Lincoln County who is running on a conservative, "tough on crime" platform. He worked in private practice until 2006 and is a current member of the Washington State Bar Association as well as the Lincoln County Bar Association.
As the state continues to face overcrowding and racial disparities in our prison system, Washingtonians need judges who will be critically aware of the community impact of over sentencing. Johnson is the best choice in this race.
