Democrat Joe Nguyen is a Senior Manager at Microsoft and the son of Vietnamese immigrants. He serves as the chair of the Wellspring Family Services Associate Board, which works on homelessness issues, and on the Community Advisory Committee for law enforcement oversight in King County. Nguyen is prioritizing health care for all, reforming our state’s upside-down tax code, and closing the opportunity gap in schools. As the father of two young children and the husband of a public school teacher, Nguyen wants to increase teacher pay and recruit and retain more teachers of color. He is also focused on maintaining affordable housing so that seniors, in particular, are not priced out of their homes.
What sets him apart: Nguyen is deeply connected to the community and is committed to building grassroots power. He would be more likely to push the envelope on progressive policies and wants to disrupt the status quo in the Senate. In addition, he is not accepting corporate donations and he would be the first person of color ever elected to the Legislature from the 34th District.
