This charter amendment is an important step toward ensuring that all individuals regardless of gender identity are equally represented in our government. Presently, the King County Charter uses outdated masculine language to describe positions such as “councilman” and “chairman”. Replacing such language with the consistent use of neutral pronouns like “council member” would provide much-needed clarity and consistency to our governing document. Additionally, incorporating gender-neutral language makes the King County Charter more inclusive and ensures that our governing document applies to men, women, transgender people, and gender non-conforming persons.
Vote YES on King County Charter Amendment No. 2 to ensure that our charter reflects our voters.
