He earned his undergraduate degree from Winston-Salem State University and received graduate degrees from the School of Theology at Virginia Union University and Howard University School of Divinity. He holds two honorary doctorate degrees from Virginia State University and Virginia Union University. He is a member of the Virginia Growth and Opportunity Board and sits on several commissions. A father to one daughter, he and his wife live in Woodbridge.
