HD26 has been identified as a key swing district. Democrats must win this seat to flip the State House and make progress for working families in Pennsylvania.
Paul Friel, Jr. is the Democratic candidate in the Pennsylvania State House’s 26th legislative district. Friel grew up near Gilbertsville. He has four kids attending public school and sits on the local school board. He owns a business that produces consumer goods and conducts environmental engineering management.
Friel’s platform is progressive. He pledges to fight for affordable healthcare and education to make them more affordable for his neighbors. He seeks to equitably distribute state income to ensure that all Pennsylvania students get a quality education. Friel has also proposed short-term state relief programs to businesses to help recover from the pandemic.
Friel's opponent is Republican incumbent Timothy Hennessey, who has held the seat since 1993. Hennessy voted in favor of forcing hospitals to cremate or bury the tissue removed during abortions or miscarriages. In 2013, he voted to prohibit insurance companies from covering abortions in the health insurance exchange. In the middle of a pandemic, Hennessey joined Republicans in their near unanimous vote against providing protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserving disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians.
Paul Friel, Jr. is the clear progressive choice in this race.Paul Friel, Jr.
