Michelle Siegel is the Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania State Senate seat in the 27th district. Siegel has a Bachelor's degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences. She is an active member of her community and is involved in the Rivertown Coalition, the Climate Reality Project, is the music program coordinator for the Regional Engagement Center’s summer camp; and volunteers at her son’s elementary school.
Siegel’s platform is progressive. She plans to aid the state in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy while supporting workers to retrain for better jobs in the new industries. She is in favor of funding reform for the public school system and against public funding for for-profit charter schools. Siegel promises to expand the rights of women and LGBTQ+ people in the state. Siegel also calls for full legalization of cannabis and the expungement of criminal records of past cannabis-related crimes.
Siegel is challenging Republican John Gordner, who has held the seat since 2003. Gordner’s record demonstrates contempt for his constituents. He voted to defund poorer school districts in favor of wealthier ones. He also voted to loosen environmental protections relating to development near streams. Gordner has supported legislation that created medically unnecessary obstacles for facilities that offer reproductive services, infringing on his constituents’ legal rights. In the middle of a pandemic, John Gordner joined Republicans in their near unanimous vote against providing protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserving disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians.
Siegel is the clear progressive choice in this race.Michelle Siegel
