Peter Buck is the Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives seat in the 171st legislative district. Buck is the chairman of the Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors. He holds a Ph.D. and has a background in education which also led him to being an award-winning educator at Penn State.
Buck’s platform is progressive. A self-described outdoorsman, Buck also champions environmental causes. His priorities are increasing the minimum wage, protecting unions, equitable funding for public schools, supporting Pennsylvania farmers, and ensuring access to quality health care. Buck has been outspoken in his support of this year’s historic civil rights marches against racism and police violence.
Buck is running against Republican incumbent Kerry Benninghoff. In 2017, Benninghoff sponsored a bill to take away food stamps from his most vulnerable neighbors. In 2019, he cosponsored another bill to repeal the largest anti-poverty program in the state. Later that year, he also cosponsored a bill to defund poorer school districts in favor of wealthier ones. In the middle of a pandemic, Kerry Benninghoff joined Republicans in their near unanimous vote against providing protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserving disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians.
Peter Buck is the clear progressive choice in this race.Peter Buck
