Scott Conklin is the Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania State House seat in the 77th legislative district. Prior to taking office, Conklin was a Centre County Commissioner for seven years and continues to be involved with several other local government committees.
Conklin has voted in the interests of workers over the years. He blocking legislation that hampered unions to protect their members in a dispute with an employer. In 2018, he voted against legislation that made it more difficult for injured workers to qualify for workers’ compensation. Conklin has a mixed record on environmental issues: he co-sponsored legislation incentivizing the use of alternative energy sources but also having voted in favor of subsidies for manufacturing companies that use fracked natural gas. He has been consistent, however, on preserving reproductive rights. During the pandemic, Scott Conklin voted to provide protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserve disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians, even as Republicans almost unanimously voted against all of these measures.
Republican Steve Yetsko has entered the race to unseat Conklin. Although Yetsko does not have any detailed policy stances publicly available, he states that he is anti-choice and against gun control. Yetsko is in favor of corporate tax cuts, against unions, and opposes environmental protections.
Scott Conklin is the clear progressive choice in this race.Scott Conklin
