HD55 has been identified as a key swing district. Democrats must keep this seat to flip the State House and make progress for working families in Pennsylvania.
Democrat Joe Petrarca, Jr. is running for reelection to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to represent the 55th district. Prior to representing this district, Petrarca worked for the U.S. Department of Labor and as Deputy Attorney General for Pennsylvania’s western regional office.
Petrarca has voted to help vulnerable constituents. Petrarca has been on the front lines fighting the opioid epidemic in his district, securing funds for therapies and treatment. He has helped local colleges receive grants to fight sexual assault on campus. During the pandemic, Joe Petrarca voted to provide protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserve disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians, even as Republicans almost unanimously voted against all of these measures.
Petrarca has attracted a Republican challenger, Jason Silvis. In 2015, Silvis was kept off the ballot during a run to be on a local school board because of his failure to file the proper financial forms. Silvis currently does not have much of a campaign presence, and his twitter account was suspended for violations.
Joe Petrarca, Jr. is the clear progressive choice in this race.Joe Petrarca
