HD28 has been identified as a key swing district. Democrats must win this seat to flip the State House and make progress for working families in Pennsylvania.
Emily Skopov is the Democratic candidate running for the Pennsylvania State House seat in the 28th legislative district. Skopov grew up in a working-class community. Her mom was a public school teacher and her dad was a small business owner. After college, she moved to the Pittsburgh area and soon started No Crayon Left Behind, a non-profit that helped distribute school supplies that were headed for landfills.
Skopov has a progressive platform. She advocates ending gun violence, fighting for fair redistricting, expanding job training programs, and increasing the minimum wage. Skopov is particularly focused on fair funding for public education by taking the burden off property tax payers.
This seat was recently vacated by former Republican House Speaker Mike Turzai. The GOP primary winner, Rob Mercuri, is an extremist who has been endorsed by the NRA, even as the organization faces dissolution due to large-scale fraud. On his social media, Mercuri cheered Republicans in their near unanimous vote against providing protective gear, testing, hazard pay, family leave, and preserving disaster declarations put in place to protect Pennsylvanians.
Emily Skopov is the clear progressive choice in this race.Emily Skopov
