Marie M. Fielder is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives for the 106th District. Fielder is a citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula. She earned dual degrees from Northern Michigan University in Elementary Education and Cognitive Impairment and a Master’s degree with emphasis on Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Central Michigan University. She has over a decade of teaching experience working with special needs children. Fielder is active with her local Democratic party and was elected as Chair of the Alpena County Democratic Party in 2020.
Fielder’s platform includes a range of issues including supporting Northern Michigan farmers, shoring up infrastructure, and fighting for accessible and affordable health care, including supporting reproductive rights. She will work to protect Michigan’s natural resources, expand access to broadband internet, and support veterans. As a retired teacher, Fielder will also fight to ensure schools are a safe, inclusive place, and support Michigan’s teachers to prepare students for a 21st century economy.
Fielder is endorsed by three of our partners: American Federation of Teachers Michigan, Michigan Education Association, and Equality Michigan.
Fielder is running against Republican Cam Cavitt. Cavitt is anti-reproductive freedom and has policy stances on elections and education rooted in right-wing extremist disinformation and conspiracy theories. He is endorsed by the anti-choice organization Right to Life Michigan and the DeVos-backed Michigan Freedom Network.
Marie Fielder is the most progressive choice in this race.
