Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan for three terms in Congress as a member of the House of Representatives, is running this year for her first term representing Michigan in the U.S. Senate.

Rep. Slotkin spent much of her career working on national security issues for the federal government. After losing her mother to cancer and witnessing firsthand the way families dealing with a serious illness must also navigate tremendous financial stress, she decided to run for Congress and work toward a more just healthcare system.

In addition to taking on big pharma and insurance companies, Rep. Slotkin’s policy priorities include creating safer communities via gun violence prevention laws, protecting abortion rights, reducing inequality and ensuring all families have what they need to thrive, and defending our democracy and voting rights.

Slotkin’s opponent is Mike Rogers, a Trump-endorsed candidate who shares many of the former president’s priorities, including harsh, authoritarian immigration and policing policies, criminalizing abortion, and supporting corporations over everyday Americans. Mike Rogers recently moved back to Michigan after living in Florida for years in order to run for the U.S. Senate.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin is the most progressive choice in this race.

Clinton St. Mosley is a father and small business owner running for his first term in Congress in the 9th District.

St. Mosley shares Michiganders’ frustration with partisan politics that prevent us from finding real solutions and has experience with having to work hard to make ends meet. His policy platform includes making communities safer via common sense gun violence prevention policies, finding compassionate immigration solutions that protect DREAMers, and combating climate change with initiatives that will also strengthen the economy.

St. Mosley’s opponent in this race is Lisa McClain, a far-right MAGA Republican who participated in efforts to overturn legitimate election results in 2020. McClain is also endorsed by the anti-reproductive freedom organization Right to Life Michigan.

After nearly 40 years serving as Macomb County Prosecutor, assistant U.S. attorney, and circuit court judge, Carl Marlinga is running for his first term in Congress to represent the 10th District.

Marlinga is a lifelong advocate who works hard to ensure everyone has the resources they need to thrive. His policy priorities include enshrining abortion rights into federal law, protecting the Great Lakes from corporate polluters, building a better, fairer justice system, and creating good-paying jobs across the state.

Helena Scott is an incumbent Democrat running for her third term to the Michigan House of Representatives. She currently represents the 7th District and is running to represent the 8th District, due to redistricting. She serves on the Higher Education; Insurance and Financial Services; Regulatory Reform; and Housing committees and chairs the Energy, Communications, and Technology committee in the State Legislature.

Scott believes in creating an economy that works for all, where wages meet the cost of living and the wealthy pay their fair share. She supports fully funding public education, including wrap-around services, and making college more affordable. She will prioritize public safety by improving infrastructure and increasing funding for water testing. Scott will fight to support workers’ rights and protect reproductive freedom.

Veronica Paiz is an incumbent Democrat running for her second term to the Michigan House of Representatives. She currently represents the 11th District and is running to represent the 10th District, due to redistricting. She serves on a variety of legislative committees including for higher education, natural resources and tourism, and is the majority vice chair for the Agriculture committee.

Paiz has also been a community activist and volunteer in the community for years.

She will fight to support workers’ rights, protect people with disabilities, ensure equality for the LGBTQ+ community, and protect our air, water, and environment.

Donavan McKinney is an incumbent Democrat running for his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives. He currently represents the 14th District and is now running to represent the 11th District. McKinney serves on a variety of appropriations subcommittees and serves as majority vice chair on the subcommittee for Corrections and the subcommittee on the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

He holds a Bachelor’s in Public Policy from the University of Michigan and has worked as a legislative director for the Michigan House of Representatives and done political and coalition work for Service Employees International Union Healthcare, the largest health care union in Michigan. McKinney served as the national political director for Climate Power, an environmental organization. McKinney was also appointed to Michigan’s first Environmental Justice Council by Governor Whitmer in 2020, where he advocated for water accessibility.

McKinney believes in creating an economy that works for all, where wages meet the cost of living. His priorities include equitable funding for public schools that focus on need and providing wraparound services, expanding mental health services and affordable health care. He supports protecting reproductive freedom and common sense gun violence prevention measures. McKinney is fighting for families and workers’ rights, pushing for policies including earned paid sick leave, parental leave, affordable child care, expanded SNAP benefits, and expanding Medicare and Medicaid benefits. He also believes quality affordable housing, clean air, and clean water are basic human rights.

She also believes healthcare is a human right and supports protecting reproductive freedom. Edwards also supports criminal justice reform and fully funding public education, including working for universal preK. She will fight to support workers’ rights and protect our air, water, and environment.

Kimberly Edwards is the most progressive choice in this race.

Mai Xiong is currently representing the 13th District for the House of Representatives after being elected earlier this year in a special election. She is running for reelection to continue representing the 13th District. Xiong currently serves on various legislative committees including Education and Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security.

When she was serving on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, Xiong broke with her own party to vote against raising the Board’s pay because she didn’t think elected officials should be raising their own pay while regular families are struggling with the rising cost of living.

Xiong came to the U.S. from Thailand as a refugee when she was three years old and was the first in her family to have a full public school education. In 2020 the residents of Warren elected her to serve as the first Asian-American and former refugee on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.

Xiong believes in creating an economy that works for all, where wages meet the cost of living and housing is affordable. She supports protecting reproductive freedom, common sense gun violence prevention measures, and fully funding public education. Xiong will fight to support workers’ rights, ensure equality for the LGBTQ+ community, and protect our air, water, and environment.

McFall will fight to support workers’ rights and protect our air, water, and environment. As a gay man, McFall will also fight for LGBTQ+ equality and civil rights for all.

Aisha Farooqi is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 57th District. She is an assistant prosecuting attorney in Wayne County where her focus has been cases involving troubled youth. She has also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the City of Sterling Heights and has been a member of the Macomb County Black Caucus and the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council of Detroit. She was born in Scotland and moved to the United States when she was nine. She attended Detroit Public Schools, earned a bachelor’s in psychology from University of Michigan-Dearborn, and earned her law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Farooqi’s priorities include economic development, increasing education funding, access to affordable healthcare, reproductive freedom, protecting the environment, public safety, seniors, infrastructure, democracy, cost of living, childcare, housing, and support for youth.


Farooqi will fight to create a Michigan that is inclusive, fair and forward thinking.

Nate Shannon is an incumbent Democrat running for his fourth term in the Michigan House of Representatives for the 58th District. He is the chair of the Transportation, Mobility and Infrastructure committee and also serves on the Education, Military, Veterans and Homeland Security, and Local Government and Municipal Finance committees. Before joining the state Legislature in 2019, Shannon spent a decade as a high school economics, history and government teacher with L’Anse Creuse Public Schools in Clinton Township. He also served on the Sterling Heights City Council from 2015 to 2019. He lives in Sterling Heights with his wife and three children.

Nate Shannon is the better choice in this race.

Jason Pulaski is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 59th District.

We cannot speak to the progressive bonafides of Pulaski due to limited available information. However, Pulaski is running against Republican incumbent Douglas Wozniak, who is decidedly anti-progressive. Wozniak is endorsed by the anti-reproductive freedom organization Right to Life Michigan and the anti-public education, DeVos-backed organization the Great Lakes Education Project. In 2021 he signed onto a letter to then Vice President Mike Pence, which asked pence to delay the certification of the 2020 election based on unfounded allegations of election fraud.

Because his opponent is so extreme, we believe Jason Pulaski is the best choice in this race.

Shelly Fraley is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives in the 60th District. She has worked more than 20 years in the software industry and is a mother and grandmother.

Fraley’s priorities include protecting reproductive freedom, the empowerment of public education, comprehensive healthcare for all, diversity and inclusion, business development, and unwavering support for the LGBTQIA+ community. She is a strong believer in the value of every individual citizen and their civil rights.

Witnessing the challenges in her district; such as distrust, division, high prices, and political intrusion, has motivated her to run for office to bring about the necessary change.

As an experienced educator Michelle prioritizes improving education by advocating for a robust, equitable public school system that supports students, families and employees. She is committed to protecting the environment, starting with Lake St. Clair and the Clinton River. Her economic goals include job creation, infrastructure upgrades, and tax relief for the middle class. Also, advocating for lowering healthcare costs and strengthening workers’ right.

Shawn Almeranti-Crosby is a Democrat running for her first term as representative for House District 66.

We cannot speak to the progressive bonafides of Almeranti-Crosby due to limited available information. However, she is running against MAGA Republican incumbent Josh Schriver, who is decidedly anti-progressive. Schriver was criticized and lost his legislative committee posts due to social media posts pushing dangerous and racist conspiracy theories. Schriver is also endorsed by the anti-reproductive freedom organization Right to Life Michigan.

Because her opponent is so extreme, we believe Shawn Almeranti-Crosby is the best choice in this race.

Christina Hines, a Macomb County native, is a Democrat running for Macomb County prosecuting attorney. With a law degree from Wayne State University and extensive experience—including leading the Appeals Division and Special Victims Unit at the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office—she has championed justice through initiatives like the Restorative Justice Diversion Program and the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.

Hines will work to ensure justice for victims of violent and sexual crimes. She will focus on providing thorough investigations, trauma-informed support, and community collaboration to address these issues effectively.

Hines also aims to shift the focus from criminalization to treatment for drug addiction and mental health, advocating for expanded rehabilitation options and diversion programs. She will work to reduce racial disparities, hold polluters accountable, and promote fairness and integrity within the Prosecutor’s Office. Additionally, Hines supports crime prevention initiatives and strives to ensure respectful and dignified operations in the office.

Hines is running against politically controversial Republican candidate Peter J. Lucido, who has faced numerous accusations about his treatment of women in professional settings and employees within the county. While in the legislature, he earned a reputation as a far-right lawmaker.

Anthony M. Wickersham is a Democrat running for re-election as Macomb County sheriff. He has dedicated nearly three decades to the Sheriff’s Office and was first appointed sheriff of Macomb County in 2011. Wickersham holds an associate’s degree from Macomb County Community College and a bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University. He has also completed advanced training at the FBI National Academy and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. Sheriff Wickersham remains committed to delivering efficient and effective public safety services to both residents and visitors of Macomb County.

Matt Churchwell is a Democrat candidate for Macomb County treasurer with deep roots in the community. Churchwell holds a master’s in organizational leadership and an MBA from Detroit Mercy.

Ken Reid is running for election to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners as a dedicated and experienced leader with a diverse background that equips him to serve effectively. With a career spanning roles as an attorney, special education teacher, college instructor, and prison coordinator, Ken has demonstrated a strong commitment to education and advocacy. He has also taken up various community roles as a Parish Council Facilitator, 4-H Leader for Special Education students, Cub Scout Den Leader, and youth sports coach.

Reid’s experience includes serving as an Officer on the Board of Directors for a local manufacturing company, and two decades as president of the Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers. He has also served as vice-president of the American Federation of Teachers Michigan chapter and he has been a staunch advocate for workers and educators. Reid is committed to serving the community with integrity, representing community interests and driving positive change.

Deneen Brewer is running for her first term as Macomb County Clerk against Republican incumbent Joe Sabatini.
