Aisha Farooqi is a Democrat running for the Michigan House of Representatives for the 57th District. Farooqi grew up in Detroit after her family moved to the United States, and later earned a degree in law from the University of Detroit Mercy. She has worked in both public and private practice, including as a legal aid attorney. She currently works as a real estate attorney and is a member of the Macomb County Black Caucus and the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council of Detroit.
Farooqi’s priorities include fighting to create an inclusive and fair Michigan by protecting civil, economic, and fundamental human rights. She will work to improve Michigan’s aging infrastructure, increase funding to public education, and invest in small businesses.
Farooqi is endorsed by six of our partners: Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, American Federation of Teachers Michigan, Clean Water Action, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, and Michigan Education Association.
Farooqi is running against Republican Thomas Kuhn. Kuhn is endorsed by the anti-choice organization Right to Life Michigan and the DeVos-backed Michigan Freedom Network.
Aisha Farooqi is the most progressive choice in this race.

Gretchen Whitmer and Garlin Gilchrist II
This year Michigan voters will elect a governor and we recommend re-electing Governor Gretchen Whitmer. In her four years as Michigan’s governor, Gov. Whitmer has repeatedly proven herself as a fierce advocate for people across the state.
