Joe Tate is an incumbent running for his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 2nd District. Before serving in the Michigan House, Joe Tate was an all-star football player and captain at Michigan State University, where he graduated with a degree in Public Policy and then played for the NFL. After two years in the NFL, he joined the Marines and served two deployments in Afghanistan. When he was honorably discharged he came back to Michigan to earn two Master's degrees from the University of Michigan in Business Administration and Science in Environmental Policy.
Tate’s priorities, if elected to the 101st legislature, include quality education and youth service programs, high-quality jobs growth and economic development, and effective public transit for metropolitan Detroit. His voting record and sponsored bills also indicate to us that Tate cares about protecting our environment and making healthcare and mental health services accessible.
Tate is endorsed by seven of our partner organizations: the Michigan Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan and Between the Lines.
Tate is running against Mayra Rodriguez. While we didn't see endorsements for Rodriguez from organizations that concern us, they also don't have the support of any of our partner organizations and therefore we cannot recommend them.
Tate is the most progressive choice in this race.

Joe Biden
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has a long career in public service, most notably serving as Vice President alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016.
Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch are our recommendations for the Michigan Supreme Court. Both candidates will protect our civil rights while ensuring justice for all.
The Michigan Supreme Court race appears on the non-partisan section of the ballot, but McCormack and Welch were nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party. Be sure to turn your ballot over and do not leave this important race blank.
