Alex Garza is an incumbent running for re-election in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 12th District. Before being elected to the House, Garza was a legislative aide to former State Representative, now Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. Garza also worked as a Legislative Assistant at the Detroit Service Center, then Director of Constituent Relations for Rep. Stephanie Chang, and in 2013 was elected to the Taylor City Council. When he was re-elected in 2017 he became the City Council Chairman. He became a state representative after winning election in 2018.
Garza’s priorities include repealing right-to-work legislation, lowering auto insurance rates, securing local road funding to fix broken infrastructure, ensuring our seniors are taken care of and comfortable in retirement, and keeping public money out of the hands of for-profit charter schools.
Garza is endorsed by seven of our partner organizations including Michigan Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Between the Lines.
Garza is running against Michelle Bailey. While we didn't see endorsements for Bailey from organizations that concern us, they also don't have the support of any of our partner organizations and therefore we cannot recommend them.
Garza is the most progressive choice in this race.

Joe Biden
Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is the Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has a long career in public service, most notably serving as Vice President alongside President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016.
Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack and Elizabeth Welch are our recommendations for the Michigan Supreme Court. Both candidates will protect our civil rights while ensuring justice for all.
The Michigan Supreme Court race appears on the non-partisan section of the ballot, but McCormack and Welch were nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party. Be sure to turn your ballot over and do not leave this important race blank.
