Draper teaches photography at Chico State and is a native of North California. He is running on a platform of promoting self-reliance, supporting the middle class, and growing small businesses, with a focus on homelessness, water rights and conservation, transparency in government spending, wildfire mitigation, education reform, and small-business support.

Voter registration: 31% Democrat, 40% Republican, and 18% No Party Preference. Republicans typically hold this district.
District demographics: 16% Latino, 6% Asian, and 2% Black.
Recent election results: AD-3 voted for Donald Trump for president in 2020 by 12 points and Brian Dahle for governor in 2022 by 28 points.
