Seattle has a great parks system that we have neglected for many years that has led to a $267 million maintenance backlog. Unanimously approved by the City Council, Proposition 1 would provide stable, dedicated funding to address leaky roofs, aging boilers, and critical electrical upgrades. It will also restore staffing at community and senior centers. Accountability and oversight is provided through the City Council. Our parks system is one of our greatest democratic institutions, bringing together people from all walks of life and all races and ethnicities to share in the beauty of nature and the benefits of recreation. We should protect this legacy for future generations.
