  • Bob Dingethal is running for Congress because he supports a stronger middle class, equal pay for equal work, and investments in education, infrastructure, and good jobs here in the United States. Dingethal would bring more than 35 years of experience in the public, private and non-profit sector with him to Congress.

Dingethal faces a tough race against incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler, an extremely conservative Republican. She has consistently sided with some of the most conservative members of her party on issues like health care, environmental protection, immigration reform, economic fairness. Far right Republican Michael Delavar is also challenging Herrera Beutler. Dingethal is the best choice in this race.

  • Derek Kilmer is a moderate Democrat who is a reliable supporter of creating jobs and improving infrastructure. He has been a leader on small business development and protecting Puget Sound during his first term. Kilmer is being challenged by conservative Republican Marty McClendon, whom he soundly defeated in a 2010 state Senate race, and Green Party candidate Douglas Milholland. Milholland is running on a campaign of environmentalism and nonviolence. Kilmer’s experience and ability to work across the aisle on behalf of the district make him the best choice in this race.

  • Representative Dean Takko is a moderate Democrat who has represented the 19th District since 2005 and serves as the Chair of the House Local Government Committee. Takko has supported bills that invested money in jobs and infrastructure. While Takko may be a moderate Democrat with a less than stellar record, he's still a much better choice than his opponent, political newcomer and Libertarian David Steenson.

  • Representative Brian Blake is currently the Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee and has a moderate voting record. He is running against conservative Hugh Fleet, who recently moved to the area from Everett, where he ran against Rep. John McCoy in 2010 and lost. County Races

Depending on where you live, you may have the below county races on your ballot.

  • Jenifer Slemp is hoping to take the seat of Gary Zandell, who is in his seventh and final term. She is currently on the Napavine City Council. Her vision for the position of Auditor includes advancing technology in the departments of records and licensing, thereby allowing citizens greater online access to records. Her opponent is Republican Larry Grove. His website states that his duties as CFO limit the time he can devote to “traditional campaign activities;” this has manifested itself in a campaign that publicizes few solutions. Jenifer Slemp is running a more articulate campaign and is the better choice in this race.

Depending on where you live, you may have the following county races on your ballot.

  • Incumbent Karen Valenzuela is a progressive Democrat. She has been endorsed by the National Women's Political Caucus, among others. Valenzuela has clear goals in mind for increasing sustainability in Thurston. Unfortunately, she has moved to privatize the custodial staff of the court house, a blow to local labor unions. Valenzuela's opponent, Independent Bud Blake, condemns the contracting of the custodial positions on his website and calls for the workers to be rehired. A great deal of Blake's focus is on the ARC jail, which is being underused and costing millions in tax money to keep open. However, Blake also has the backing of many local Republicans. We think Valenzuela is the better choice in this race.
